What happened to the store?
No longer able to fight the realities of the economic downswing -- falling walk-in trade, poor attendance at autograph parties countered by increasing operating costs -- Art and I, have decided to take Dangerous Visions to the next logical level: a purely virtual storefront know as readsf.com.

On Sunday, November 10th, 2002, readsf.com closed its physical doors for the last time.

We've faced many obstacles over the decades -- flood, changing landlords, leaks, robbery. Still, we've had a lot of fun (our Alice and Wonderland Party, the Cyber Cafe, over 700 autograph parties, book fairs, conventions) and we've made many friends. We will miss you all.
We're not going anywhere -- our pets are too comfortable where we live -- but the next time you see us at a convention, or standing in line at the bank or a movie theatre, we'll be in our capacity as common citizens, fans, writers and publishers. We'll also be the owners of this great online bookstore.

Hours of operation.
DV was a great place to hang out, but things change. We closed our store front. Which means you can no longer browse our stock -- except online ... but that's 24 hours a day! Questions? You can write to us at bookseller(at)readsf.com .

We're sorry, but you can't come by to pick up books -- but we'll ship to anywhere in the Los Angeles area for a flat fee of $2. U.S. Club members's orders ship for free.

What are your future plans?
Re-opening the store is not in our future plans. Please note that the operations of Babbage Press (a completely unique business entity) are not be affected by the closing of our physical location.

Why should I shop at DV?
Sure you could go to Amazon or Barnes and Nobles.com but where do you think they get their rare and out of print books from? The answer: independent booksellers like us. So why not cut out the middleman and support independent booksellers.

Some of our books are already discounted. In addition, we extend a 10% courtesy discount to all active SFWA members. When purchasing their own books, the discount is bumped up to 20%. Bona fide libraries are offered a 20% discount on a pro forma basis only.

Do you have gift certificates?
Yes, in any amount over one dollar.

Do you hold Autograph Parties?
Not any more.

Used Books
Our cup runneth over so we're not accepting any used books until we've sold a bunch of what's in stock.
Magazines are fun to read and represent the original publications of many great shorter works. Unfortunately, we have a ton and the market isn't fast enough to allow for speculation... in fact, it's really, really slow. We suggest you give your old digests to a worthy cause like a local V.A. hospital. We do.
