This is Who We Are
Arthur Byron Cover
Art began his association with the science fiction field by reading the stuff.
In 1971 he attended the Clarion Writer's SF Workshop in New Orleans, where he made his first professional sale to Harlan Ellison's The Last readsf.com
. That story has yet to appear, but in the interim he's published several novels: Autumn Angels, The Platypus of Doom and Other Nihilists, The Sound of Winter, An East Wind Coming, Planetfall, and Stationfall. He also wrote Night of the Living Rerun, a novel based on the hit TV show "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" which you can see him holding here.
His short stories have appeared in Infinity Five, Alternities, The Alien Condition, Weird Heroes #6, The Year's Best Horror #4 and #5, Wild Cards #5: Down & Dirty, and Pulphouse. In addition, he's written several comics -- most notably two issues of Daredevil with Harlan and Space Clusters, a graphic novel from DC illustrated by Alex Nino -- plus several animation scripts, and reviews and articles for such august publications as The New York Review of Science Fiction.
Art's managed our store since its founding. His short story "The Performance of a Lifetime" appeared in the 1997 anthology Free Space, edited by Brad Linaweaver and Ed Kramer. Most recently, he's written the first two of three novels based on Rising Stars, a series of graphic novels by J. Michael Straczynski.
Cover has remarked that he began his career as a professional writer, then became a bookseller, and then became a fan. He figures that if this pattern of social mobility continues, pretty soon he'll be able to just read the stuff again.

I am Babbage Prime.

"The Hounds of Heck"
Outside of dog, a book is man's best friend; and inside of a dog, it's too dark to read. --Groucho Marx.
Ripley. "Lickasaurus Riptilicus." With a name like Ripley you might be tempted to say "Believe it or not!" especially when when you see her leaping for a ball or sliding through her wading pool. Now that she's full grown this Shepweiler (Rottweiler/Shepherd mix) will challenge any Alien Queen... probably to a game of tag. She's 55 pounds of solid muscle. Please Play with Ripley! -- I need a break!
Bishop. "Bush-Tailed Blue." He looks like a shepherd/huskey mix ( a shepskey?) but don't be fooled! He's really an evil 'droid. Check out that eye! Like his namesake he seems to have his own agenda, and shouts of "Damn you, Bishop!" are heard nightly at our house. Ripley is his favorite toy, tho' he's been known to enjoy an occasional mouse pad with his coffee. At least, he doesn't 'do the knife thing' . I hope!
Newt. "Spotty-Nose Squirrrel Hound." The new dog on the block, Newt tries harder at everything. She barks the loudest, digs the deepest, and eats faster than any canine we've ever known. Down deep she's a joyous pup who loves to cuddle and lives to chase squirrels. But when loud noises frighten her (thunder ... tv ... the can opener) -- Isn't that the Alien Queen?! -- she hightails it to safety under my desk. Life for this retriever mix is black and white -- just like her shiny coat. Go ahead: see if you can count Newt's spots!
For those of you who knew them: smile when you remember D'Joan and Zhora and Carmen.
